Scaleway Opens Milan Cloud Region Backed by EUR 3 Billion

Scaleway has entered the Italian market with a new cloud region in Milan, built across three availability zones. The first zone, at a data centre in Settimo Milanese, is already live. Two more, in Basiglio and central Milan, follow in the coming months. The buildout sits inside parent company Iliad's EUR 3 billion AI infrastructure investment programme, per Telecompaper.
Three availability zones mean redundancy for enterprise and critical workloads, not just consumer-grade uptime. Scaleway is a French public cloud operator competing against hyperscalers on European sovereignty and pricing. Italy is an underserved market in that contest. The Iliad funding gives Scaleway a clear capital line to build at pace.
Watch whether Italian enterprise buyers shift procurement toward a European-owned stack. The signal is not the zone going live. The signal is whether Scaleway wins regulated-sector contracts that hyperscalers cannot close on data-residency grounds.
