Mistral Buys Koyeb to Own Its Cloud Stack

Mistral AI has acquired Koyeb, its first-ever acquisition. The Paris-based serverless platform, founded in 2020 by three former Scaleway employees, had raised $8.6 million before the deal. Mistral, valued at $13.8 billion, announced its own cloud offering, Mistral Compute, in June 2025. Koyeb's 13-person team now accelerates that build. Trending Topics has the details.
The move signals a clear strategic shift. Mistral is no longer content renting compute from cloud providers. Koyeb's serverless architecture handles GPU, CPU, and specialized hardware workloads with automatic scaling that adjusts in fractions of a second. The startup had already launched Sandboxes, isolated environments for deploying AI agents, making it directly relevant to Mistral's inference and agentic ambitions.
Watch whether other European AI labs follow. The pattern is familiar: a lab builds models, then realizes distribution and margin live in the infrastructure layer. Mistral is now building the plumbing, not just the models that run on it. For hardware suppliers and cloud operators in this stack, the buyer pool just changed.
