Cohere Acquires Aleph Alpha to Build European AI Beachhead

Cohere enters Europe carrying $1.6 billion in prior funding from backers including Nvidia and AMD, and a $7 billion valuation set in 2025. The combined entity targets sovereign AI deployments in defense, finance, public sector, energy, manufacturing, and telecom. These are buyers who cannot simply rent American cloud infrastructure and call it strategy.
